 2007

Crufts, organised by the Kennel Club, is the greatest and best known dog show in the world and is held every year at the NEC, Birmingham. Crufts 2007 is set to be bigger and better than ever! This March, lights, cameras and lots of action will fill five halls of the NEC plus the Arena as Crufts - the world's greatest dog show - is brought to you by the Kennel Club.

Congratulations goes to Tom Marks, he is our first Junior handler to be invited to Crufts. He has qualified to compete in Junior Large ABC class to be held on the Sunday the 11th March.

Tom will be taking his dog rescued from Animal Lifeline Tia. Tom has managed to achieve what many adult handlers aspire to and he's only 9 years old!

Congratulations also to Amanda Hampson also, she has been invited to the Medium Special Class on the Friday with her dog Minx

GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2006 Agility World Championship

Amanda and Minx recently competed as part of the British Team at the Agility World Championships which were held in Basel, Switzerland. Although they did not compete in the Medium Individual class they were part of the Medium Team event. This consisted of an agility and a jumping course and Amanda was thrilled when Minx achieved clear rounds in both of these classes. Minx was so excited she barked her way round both of the courses and as a handler to run in a 4000 capacity stadium full of agility supporters was an incredible experience. The cheering and encouragement from the British stand alone was enough to raise the roof. Unfortunately an unlucky elimination by one of the other members of the team meant that the medium team did not come away with medals but this did not detract from the enjoyment of the event.
The World Championships are run by the FCI whose rules do differ slightly to UK agility
.

Course walking was also a new experience as the competitors from each event were split into groups and each group was given exactly eight minutes to walk the course. This was made more difficult as most handlers literally ran round the course with elbows out knocking over any other handlers that got in their way.

Amanda and Kes recently attended their first Agility Final at the Olympia International Horse Show in London on 15 December. Just to get to Olympia is an enormous achievement so Amanda was thrilled that Kes ran brilliantly going clear in the Kennel Club Midi Agility Final and coming fifth. Amanda also said that the atmosphere at Olympia was incredible with the cheers of the spectators really encouraging dog and handler round the course. It was a day that she will remember for a long time.

Championship Class success!!!

Well done to two of our Advanced handlers Lorraine Walchester and Ash and Louise Evans and Beattie who competed in the Championship Classes at Northern Week on 29 August. The Championship Classes are only open to Advanced Dogs and the standard of dogs and handlers is therefore exceptionally high and the courses very challenging. Both dogs and handlers qualified for the Championship Class Final with Lorraine and Ash coming third in the standard dog final (just missing the reserve CC) and Louise and Beattie winning the mini dog final. Unfortunately due to a missed dog walk contact Louise & Beattie don't get the CC but as they were the only dog and handler to get round the course in the mini final they should still be extremely proud of this achievement.

New Junior Member

S.A.S. trainer Amanda welcomes Thomas Marks to the club Summer 2004.

Thomas is 7 years old and is learning to run with his dog Tia Maria. As Tia cut her pad out walking, he has also been training with Amanda's dog Kes. He is now so keen he wants to train his puppy Pepsi when she is old enough. (but mum says it's her puppy!!)

After seven weeks of training Tom entered his first show Lune Valley recently and ran both Tia and Kes in the under twelve juniors class, jumping and agility. Thomas and the dogs really enjoyed the day and had some lovely runs!!

Good Luck for the future Tom !!
